A driver narrowly escaped tragedy this morning when a tree fell onto his SUV on the Saw Mill River Parkway.
County police say the incident occurred around 4:25 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Cliff Street in Hastings-on-Hudson. The driver, who was too shaken to provide an on-camera statement, recounted traveling to work when a large tree suddenly crashed onto his vehicle. Despite the windshield being shattered and the front of the car sustaining damage, the driver emerged without any injuries.
In response to the incident, the southbound lanes were closed at Lawrence Street, with traffic diverted off the Route 9A/Saw Mill River Road.
The northbound lanes remained unaffected.
All lanes were reopened just before 7 a.m., allowing traffic to resume its normal flow.
