A huge toy drive was held Sunday morning in Uniondale in an effort to bring as many toys to children in need as possible.
This year's Toys for Tots drive was held at RXR Plaza in Uniondale, across the street from the Nassau Coliseum.
This is the 10th year the toy drive has come to Long Island. Each year, the drive collects around 55,000 toys for children.
"We want to give back to the less fortunate," said Franco Prete, of East Meadow. "I feel like every kid should have the opportunity to have nice toys for the holidays."
Toys for Tots was founded in 1947 by a group of U.S. Marines. Sticking to that tradition, there were several members of the Marine Corps at the drive Sunday. Santa Claus also made an appearance, and there was a display of exotic cars.
"I want the kids to know that someone else is thinking about them and wants to see them smile and know that everything is going to be OK," said Jackie Ehmer, of Dix Hills.
