Town of Chester police: Truck careens off Route 17 into embankment; driver injured

Authorities say they had to use a fire extinguisher to put out a small fire before they could rescue the driver.

A truck driver was injured after police say the rig careened off Route 17 in Orange County and down a steep embankment.
A neighbor captured the scene on her cell phone just after midnight Saturday.
Town of Chester police say the truck crashed into another vehicle in the eastbound lanes in an area known as The Chester Flats. The truck then careened off the road, down a 20 foot ditch.
Witnesses told News 12 it looked like the truck went airborne.

The driver suffered a severe head injury and was rushed to Garnet Health Medical Center.
There were no other injuries reported.
State police were still investigating the accident as of Saturday night.
