The Town of Greenburgh's supervisor wants Westchester County to offer financial incentives to communities that will have to build affordable housing units during the next seven years.

Paul Feiner says the county could offer money for things such as park space or education to help win over predominantly white communities that are reluctant to accept affordable housing.

Earlier this month the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development brokered the settlement of a lawsuit with Westchester that requires the county to create hundreds of affordable homes in heavily white communities and encourage nonwhites to move in.

The county board has to approve the settlement proposal by Sept. 24.
