Several roads and parkways remain closed during the Monday evening commute because of flooding earlier in the day.

According to Westchester County Executive George Latimer, the Saw Mill River Parkway is closed in several spots including from Executive Boulevard in Yonkers to Tuckahoe Road as well as the ramp to I-287. The Bronx River Parkway is closed southbound from the County Center in White Plains to the Sprain Brook Parkway split in Bronxville.

The Cross County, Playland and Hutchinson River parkways are open for the most part but drivers are urged to drive carefully because of the risk of high water in certain areas.

Local roads throughout the county also took on various levels of water.

People living near the Saw Mill River Parkway said they braced for the worst as the storm strengthened.

"Gritting your teeth and hoping and praying and thinking of your neighbors," said longtime Yonkers resident Linda Schimanke.

News 12 photographer John Dulak waded into thigh-high flood waters at the Executive Boulevard exit of the Saw Mill River Parkway to help push a driver who had gotten onto the road and was stuck.

"I just saw it was an older gentleman, didn't know his situation, and wanted to get him out as quickly as possible," he said.

Roadways are expected to improve overnight into the commute Tuesday morning.
