Thousands walk to fight pancreatic cancer

<p>Thousands turned out in Rye today for a walk to raise money for pancreatic cancer research. The Lustgarten foundation's annual Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk started eight years ago with only about 100 people participating. The event has now grown to over 2000 people attending. Every dollar raised for the walk goes to research for the disease. The foundation has already raised $900,000 dollars for the day. They expect to surpass $1 million by the end of the day.</p>

Thousands turned out in Rye Sunday for a walk to raise money for pancreatic cancer research.
Organizers say that the Lustgarten Foundation's annual Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk started eight years ago with only about 100 people participating. They say the event has now grown to over 2,000 people attending.
Organizers say that every dollar raised for the walk goes to research for the disease.
"A lot of us are feeling hopeless and this kind of gives us some hope that things will be OK," said Teresa Piancardi of Rye.
