A judge?s ruling Thursday will allow thousands of sex offenders to be removed from the state registry.
In January 2006, Governor Pataki (R-NY) signed an amendment to Megan?s Law that requires sex offenders to register with state authorities for a longer period of time. However, a federal judge ruled the new restrictions do not apply to predators who settled a lawsuit 10 years ago against the state.
Now, 4,400 sex offenders in the state will be removed from the list.
