Thousands of pounds of food were distributed in Yonkers and White Plains today at five different locations.

Officials say they hope to continue hosting events like these for all county residents.

Yonkers councilwoman Tasha Diaz says her team plans to provide food each week throughout the entire summer.

“We are going to get 10,000 pounds of fresh produce every week, and we are not asking for ID, you don't have to sign anything.” says Diaz. “You don't have to be in a specific district, you can come from anywhere. I have people on line from Port Chester so this is how big this has spread.”

News 12 is told the councilwoman organized the giveaways in her district.
