During the first winter storm of 2009 Wednesday, thousands of power outages occurred in Yorktown and much of Northern Westchester County.
According to Con Ed, their customers are back on line, while NYSEG says 625 of their customers are still without power in Northern Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties due to the ice storm. However, another outage Thursday morning in Somers caused another 300 to lose power.
Meanwhile, as the ice began to thaw, residents were also hit with a sudden blast of snow Thursday.
According to Eric DiBartolo, the Superintendent for Highways in Yorktown, the sudden snow fall is a surprise. "It was supposed to be sunny today and looking real good, but I just took a look at the radar and we have a big swatch coming through for a couple of hours," he says.
If the snow continues to fall, road crews may be sent out once again.
