"The Interview" has been selling out showings at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Yonkers.

The long-awaited release of the movie, starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, came to life this week throughout the country and in Westchester, where all but a few shows were sold out.

The Alamo says patrons who want to see the movie should aim for a Monday or Thursday showing. The general manager says the theater will determine on Monday whether it will start showing the movie on a full schedule.

Many moviegoers are seeing the movie in support of free speech. "You can't give into those type of things," said one man.

The Alamo is one of the few places in the country showing the comedy, which depicts Rogen and Franco as journalists tasked by the CIA with killing North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Sony originally canceled the release of the film after a hacking attack and threats of terrorism, which the FBI attributed to North Korea. Private security experts expressed doubt that North Korea carried out the attack, saying it appeared to have been an inside job.

Sony later said the movie was going to be released in a limited number of theaters on Christmas before deciding to also stream the movie on digital platforms on Christmas Eve.

"The Interview" grossed $1 million at the box office on Christmas Day. Sales figures for the online market weren't available.
