Commuters faced icy roads and slippery sidewalks Wednesday following an overnight storm that left several inches of snow on the ground before changing to sleet and rain in the afternoon.
Up to 5 inches fell in some areas of the Bronx before the precipitation turned to freezing rain.
News 12 meteorologists said the rain tapered off in the evening hours. As the temperatures dropped, roads were left slippery for the morning commute.
Drivers are urged to take extra travel time Thursday due to icy roads. Officials are advising people to use mass transit.
