The president announced Wednesday that there is no specific and credible intelligence indicating a terrorist plot on the U.S. as Thanksgiving travelers departed for the holiday.
Some commuters in Grand Central Station said they were nervous about their own personal safety after learning about the State Department's worldwide travel alert.
Mohammad Azim said he reluctantly traveled to Yonkers Wednesday for a job interview. His fears were calmed by the time he got to Grand Central Station and saw law enforcement officers at every turn.
Police officers, guards dogs and members of the National Guard, many heavily armed, made their presence known inside the terminal.
Azim, who is Muslim, came to the U.S five years ago as an immigrant. He said he refuses to let the threat of terrorism get in the way of his American dream.
"It is what it is, there's nothing that you can do," he said.
