Testimony continued Monday in the trial involving a young woman accused of helping her friend cover up her mother?s murder.
Prosecutors say Carmella Magnetti played a big role in helping her friend Anne Trovato kill Trovato?s mother, Patricia Mery. Magnetti is accused of driving Trovato to her mother?s house, getting rid of bloody clothing and making up an alibi to cover for her friend.
Trovato took the stand Monday to testify as the first witness for Magnetti. Trovato is serving 25 years to life for murdering her mother. On the stand, Trovato said that Magnetti was controlling, but that she wouldn?t lie about anything.
?I think Anne testified well,? Defense Attorney Ted Brundage said. ?The jury is going to focus on what we present of our view of the facts at this time.?
Mery was a schoolteacher for over 30 years. She and Trovato had been feuding over custody of Trovato?s daughter Arianna when she was killed Mother?s Day weekend 2006.
If convicted, Magnetti faces up to 15 years behind bars.
Testimony will continue Tuesday.
