Emotions ran high in a Riverhead cortroom as a family lashed out at the driver who pleaded guilty to killing his two friends while driving high.
Prosecutors say David O'Brien, 19, was impaired by drugs and driving his Mustang recklessly in October 2017 when he crashed into a tree on North Wellwood Avenue in Lindenhurst.
His two passengers, 16-year-old Joseph Galdorisi and 24-year-old Maggie Miller, both died.
"He should be with us, but he's not because of some stupid person decided to drive high and now we have to suffer," says Anthony Galdorisi, Jr., Joseph's father.
Under a plea deal, O'Brien admitted to all charges in a 17-count indictment and was promised a sentence of no more than 4-12 years in prison.
The family of Joseph Galdorisi expected to find out that sentence Friday, but were frustrated to learn they would have to wait another week after O'Brien's attorney requested a brief adjournment so the judge cold take the family's statements into account.
"I want it over with. It's too long. It's too long," says Anthony Galdorisi, the victim's father. "I wish he would give him the maximum sentence. That's what he deserves. And that's still not enough time."
O'Brien remains out on bail. He and his family were quiet leaving the court room.
O'Brien's attorney says his client will express remorse at his sentencing next Friday.
