Teen gets 18 years in Yonkers cabbie slaying
A Yonkers teenager pleaded guilty Thursday to killing and robbing a taxi driver last year and was sentenced to 18 years behind bars.
The judge called the murder of Geraldo Gutierrez a "crushing loss for a family" as he handed down the sentence to 17-year-old Dequan Duncan.
Prosecutors say Duncan called for a cab on May 22, 2008, and fatally stabbed Gutierrez when they arrived at the Yonkers home of the defendant's friend.
Duncan claimed in court his attorney talked him into taking the plea deal. His mother said Duncan thought he could withdraw his plea at any moment.
