Teen charged with death of boyfriend appears in court
A 16-year-old girl faced a judge Monday in connection with the stabbing death of her 17-year-old boyfriend.
According to police, Justin Woodward was stabbed and killed in Latonya Fisher?s apartment at Bohlman Towers Thursday. Fisher is charged with first-degree manslaughter in Woodward?s death.
Deborah Alston, Woodward?s mother, was in court Monday for Fisher?s appearance. When Fisher?s mother entered the room, Alston and her supporters were so upset that Fisher?s mother was asked to leave the room until they calmed down.
Police say Fisher stabbed Woodward in the back with a large kitchen knife after he told her he was leaving town and tried to break up with her. Alston said Friday that she had encouraged her son to end his relationship with Fisher.
?I asked him if he would go down south and finish school,? she said. ?I was willing to send him down, to get him away from this young lady.?
After the hearing, police led Alston and her companions from the courthouse.
Fisher?s mother said she understands Alston?s pain. She said with Woodward dead and her daughter charged with killing him, she feels like she has lost two children.
?I loved Justin and I love Latonya,? she said. ?We spent a lot of time together, an extreme amount of time, and I?m really sorry. I?m truly sorry this has happened.?
Fisher remains in custody on $100,000 bail. She is due back in Peekskill City Court on Jan. 10.
