Some 40 years after roller derby first appeared on the national athletic stage, the sport is starting to make a comeback in Westchester.
Westchester's Suburbia Roller Derby League, a nonprofit club owned by the players, formed two years ago as the interest for the once-forgotten sport was on the rise.
The league's skaters, who take on colorful monikers like Fatal Booty, Brawl Stanley and Whop-Her Junior, come from all walks of life. They say practices and bouts give them a chance to work off stress and compete in a contact sport.
