Teachers rally for colleagues in Mount Pleasant
Teachers across Westchester are rallying around their colleagues in the Mount Pleasant School District.The show of solidarity began Wednesday outside the district's Westlake High School. The group continued its rally inside as the protesters lined the halls in front of administrators and board members.Teachers in the district have been working without a contract for 16 months. The school board has offered teachers raises of 2 percent, 2.1 percent and 2.25 percent over the next three years. Union leaders say the proposal is below the county's average of 3.5 percent to 4 percent.School officials tell News 12 Westchester that the state will have to hire a mediator since a deal could not be reached. Both sides say it could take at least six weeks to reach an agreement.
