Two Westchester taxi companies are accused of ripping off customers the night of the deadly Metro-North train crash in Valhalla last February.
The crash left thousands of commuters from Connecticut to Manhattan stranded, causing many to take taxis home instead.
Two companies -- Eagle Car Service, of Mount Kisco, and Intrepid Taxi Corporation, of White Plains -- took advantage of the situation and demanded higher rates.
The attorney general's office found that the companies were overcharging their customers, fining them each $375.
Assemblyman David Buchwald said the companies got what they deserved for taking advantage of people in a time of need.
"At a moment of great tragedy, we should all be looking to help fellow residents, businesses have that responsibility too just as well as residents," he said.
