Drivers say construction plates on the northbound side of the Tappan Zee Bridge are making for a miserable commute this week.

The temporary plates were moved from the southbound side of the bridge and are now causing increased rush-hour frustrations and automobile wear for drivers heading north.

The construction has been troublesome enough to prompt some Rockland lawmakers to call for a formal investigation into the handling of the repairs, even calling for help from Gov. David Paterson's office.

Thruway officials, meanwhile, say the plates are necessary while construction crews replace expansion joints on the span.

Work should be completed by the end of 2008, and construction of a new bridge is slated for 2010.
