Synagogues across the Hudson Valley are ramping up security while trying to cope with the tragedy in Pittsburgh.
The shooting killed 11 in the Tree of Life synagogue Saturday.
The Chabad of Orange County in Goshen and Temple Sinai in Middletown are among the dozens of synagogues ramping up security. Temple Sinai president Paula Blumenau says now's the time for Jewish people to be proactive rather than reactive.
“We just have to be thinking that this could happen to us,” she says.
Officials tell News 12 that Temple Sinai will add extra security guards to all events this weekend. They say that many congregants say they want even more security measures put into place after the shooting in Pittsburgh.
Both synagogues say security has always been a top priority prior to the weekend's shooting and that they are supplementing those safety measures out of an abundance of caution.
