No one knew how the hostile situation would end Saturday night, but Greenburgh police and the SWAT team finally apprehended a wanted man.
Police say Alex Washington barricaded himself in the attic of a Florence Avenue house in Greenburgh for four hours, and when he wouldn?t come out, the SWAT team went in and got him. Police wanted Washington on a felony charge.
Washington, who police called a violent criminal with a record, was thought to have guns in the house, but police didn?t find any. When the SWAT team busted into the house, Washington?s three pit bulls came charging toward them. Authorities say they tried to use a tranquilizer gun at first, but after one of the dogs bit an officer, they shot and killed all three dogs.
Washington will be arraigned in Greenburgh Town Court as he faces charges of assault and criminal mischief. He will be at the Greenburgh jail until his arraignment.
