Suspect in stairwell rape proclaims innocence
A man who is in police custody for allegedly raping a woman inside her Bronx apartment building says police have the wrong man.
Police arrested Raymond Jenkins, 22, of Brooklyn, Wednesday for the rape and robbery of a woman in University Heights. Police said Jenkins approached the victim inside an elevator at East 183rd Street around 10 p.m. on Feb. 5.
Jenkins faces charges of rape, assault and robbery. Jenkins allegedly stole cash and two cellphones from the victim before assaulting her in a stairwell.
As he walked outside of a police precinct Wednesday night, he used profane language as he defended his innocence.
