There have been no changes to the crossing where the 2015 Metro-North crash occurred, according to Mount Pleasant Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi.

Metro-North has considered the Commerce Street grade-crossing in Valhalla a priority, currently receiving safety risk assessments, but the National Transportation Safety Board doing the investigation will ultimately make recommendations.

"We have to wait for the experts to come back to us and tell us what they think about the crossing and what improvements they think are necessary, if any," says Fulgenzi.

The crash has had a direct impact on neighboring communities, including a call for change at the Roaring Brook Road grade-crossing in Chappaqua.

New Castle Town Supervisor Robert Greenstein says the entire road was milled and repaved. Greenstein says structural changes, like new signs and lights are just part of the solution. He is seeking funding to prevent future accidents.

The Roaring Brook Road crossing and Commerce Street crossing are part of MTA's 6th Police District. In 2015, authorities issued 353 summonses and 121 written warnings. Some of those infractions were for racing the gates.
