Sun and sand as Orchard Beach opens for summer

Armed with towels and sunblock, buses took people to Orchard Beach Saturday ahead of Memorial Day. The beach was one of 20 to open across the city under sunny skies. Lifeguards were on duty from 10 a.m.

Armed with towels and sunblock, buses took people to Orchard Beach Saturday ahead of Memorial Day.
The beach was one of 20 to open across the city under sunny skies. Lifeguards were on duty from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Bx12 bus provided shuttle service to the beach from the 6 train Pelham Bay Park station Saturday.
On Sunday and Monday, the bus will provide service from 207th Street and Broadway to Orchard Beach starting at 8:07 a.m. to 8:13 p.m. Buses will operate every 10 minutes during the weekend.
The regular Bx12 service to Orchard Beach will begin in the summer.
