Rolf and Joanne Buxeder both underwent surgery Wednesday at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where Joanne donated her own kidney to her husband.
The Buxeders, who live in Rye, have been married for 24-years. Rolf's kidneys finally began to fail him after years of being on dialysis so his wife decided she would donate one of her healthy kidneys to him.
Doctors tell News 12 Westchester that Rolf Buxeder's failing kidneys were "not" removed. Instead, his wife's healthy kidney was "piggy-backed" onto them.
