Nearly 200 students showed off their skills in a competition focused on careers at Rockland Community College.
"Skills USA" held a competition featuring 18 disciplines including culinary arts, cosmetology, and construction trades.
Officials at the Rockland BOCES say the students in these programs do more than just learn a trade. "Many of them are in their high schools, also attaining their Regents or local diplomas, while they are simultaneously getting their license in an industry that they can practice upon graduation," says Rockland BOCES Superintendent Mary Jean Marisco.
The state competition will be held in Syracuse in April, and the national competition is scheduled for Louisville, Kentucky in late June.
