Students stage another walkout for stricter gun laws
Thousands of students around the country and throughout the Hudson Valley staged another school walkout Friday to demand stricter gun laws.
The walkout came on the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre.
In a show of solidarity with students nationwide, dozens of Bronxville High School students walked out of class shortly after 11 a.m. The demonstrators protested gun violence and called for action on legislation to reform current gun laws.
The students walked from the high school on Pondfield Road to Christ Church Bronxville, about a half-mile away. The teen activists also heard from invited guests who said they live with gun violence daily.
Frantz Michel runs a nonprofit in Brooklyn for at-risk youth. He said suburban kids and inner-city students can work together to bring about change.
The school walkout in Bronxville also included getting students to register to vote.
Two months after the deadly school massacre in Parkland, Florida, the Bronxville students said they're optimistic that their grassroots efforts will bring about permanent change.
