A rally was held in White Plains Saturday in support of the DREAM Act, which would allow qualified students who were in the U.S. illegally to become permanent residents.

Arturo Bravo, who organized Saturday's rally, says while he gained legal status many years ago as a child, other children are not as lucky. That is why he became a strong advocate of the federal legislation known as DREAM Act.

"They read the same books, learn the same things, but when they graduate from high school, they realize the sad truth that financial aid is not an option for them," Bravo says.

Maria Valentin, of the Hispanic Advisory Board, says the issue at hand goes beyond the narrow scope of the DREAM Act. She says the United State needs a broad, comprehensive immigration reform. Not everyone, however, agrees.

"If I take the jewelry off your neck, I'm going to jail because it's illegal to take jewelry off your neck," says Josh Askew, of White Plains. "But for you to climb over the border illegally and then come here and demand, after you committed a crime, that we give you rights - it doesn't make sense."
