Students, parents fight to keep Baker High School open
The future of a high school in Orange County will be decided by its school board now that the state has ruled against a charter school application.
Parents and students of George F. Baker High School packed the Tuxedo Board of Education meeting last night, pleading with the board not to close the school down. A bid for a charter school would have allowed the school to receive public funding, while cutting ties from the Greenwood Lake School Board.
News 12 is told that the board is no longer allowing its district students to choose Tuxedo as a high school option.
"It's the best high school in Orange County and it would be a disservice to all the kids if they don't get to finish" said parent Gavin Rink.
If the district decides to keep the high school, there could be up to a 10 percent increase in taxes.
No word yet on when the school board will make its decision.
