A group of young men and women who have chosen nursing as their career have graduated from a special program at White Plains Hospital.
The 22 students completed White Plains Hospital's Summer Nurse Apprenticeship program.
The youngest of the graduating class is 18-year-old Darien Pierce, who says he has always wanted to be a nurse.
"I was born with sickle cell disease, so I was always in and out of the hospital, and I always admire the job that nurses do," he says.
Over seven weeks, the students worked throughout the hospital's various areas, including the emergency room, labor and delivery and pediatrics.
The students will now return to their respective colleges and universities for additional training. Some of them are expected to return as full-fledged nurses.
The Summer Nurse Apprenticeship program, which has seen more than 1,000 students graduate, is celebrating its 10th year.
