An extremely windy day like Monday can make life difficult during normal times, but it can create even bigger problems for people working from home during the pandemic.

Mary Beth Kuderna took work calls in her car after losing power Monday morning.

"Working from home on a new job, it's really, really hard," she said.

She says, she got a text early in the day from her cable provider saying she'd have power back by 2 p.m. Just before 2 p.m., she received a second text. The repair work was taking longer than expected with no exact restoration time.

Kuderna says she couldn't charge her laptop, but it didn't matter because she had no Wi-Fi and couldn't use it anyway.

Kuderna is one of 500 people still without power on Monday in Rockland County.

This comes just days after Gov. Andrew Cuomo's announcement of new legislation targeting utility companies.

The new bill would remove penalty caps for storm response violations and allow the state to look into taking over companies that have come under fire for high rates.

The outages not only left homeowners in a bind, but closed businesses as well.
