The Stratford Education Association says its members voted Monday 396-160 to accept furlough days in order to close a $700,000 budget gap.
As News 12 reported, Superintendent Janet Robinson had said if the union voted against the plan, she was prepared to lay off as many as 43 faculty members.
Officials say schools will now close two days ahead of schedule, leaving Stratford with the state-mandated 180 school days.
