Utility companies aren't the only ones under fire for their response to Tropical Storm Isaias.

Lawmakers are blaming the Public Service Commission for failing to properly oversee utility companies.

The complete investigation into the storm response will take six months, but this week the PSC sent violation notices to utility companies about three immediate changes: fix communication failures, more crews available on the ground and in reserve and fix coordination between utility companies.

The regulator is also threatening to pursue franchise revocations for Con Edison and Orange & Rockland Utilities.

Lawmakers are questioning if the changes will be enforced, citing a March audit of the PSC by the state comptroller which found the PSC does not sufficiently monitor utilities' compliance, and utilities in some cases submit inaccurate data the department is using.
