Keep your eyes on the sky! Road Trip Close to Home is visiting the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, where aircraft dating back to the early 1900s is brought back to life. 

“The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome is about living, breathing museum of early aviation. We have 50, maybe 60, airplanes in the collection. We keep about 15 of them airworthy,” says Stewart Sommerville, Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome Airshow and Events Manager.

The collection includes some of the rarest planes on the planet. 

One of the aircraft was built late in World War I to train pilots. There are only four left in the world, and one of them is in Rhinebeck 

The aerodrome is known for its airshows. “They can see the airplanes that have flown here at Old Rhinebeck at one time or another, and any time we want to, we can make them fly again,” says Sommerville.

Unfortunately, the airshow can’t happen this year because of the pandemic, but that doesn’t mean you’ll have to miss out on all the action!    

If you want a first-hand experience of aviation from the 1920s, you can catch a view from a biplane. Reserve a time slot and feel like you’re on top of the world as you catch views of the Hudson Valley from up to 1,500 feet above!
