One Hastings resident got a birthday celebration a century in the making on Tuesday.
Frederick Olaf Olsson turned 100 years old, and his family, along with the Hastings Fire Department, held a drive-by celebration in his honor.
As you can imagine, Olsson has accomplished a lot over the past century including flying 30 missions over Germany in World War II as a pilot, acting in two Broadway plays, winning an Arthur Godfrey talent contest, and singing on the radio!
Now, he says he's just happy to be close to his loved ones. "It is not my doing, but it is my pleasure to be able to live within a few miles of our child, grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, which is a gift…not by plan it just happened, so it’s a blessing."
Olsson was also the director of maintenance for the Shubert Organization in New York City for 50 years. He retired at the age of 92!
