Gyms across New York have not been given the green light to reopen yet, but some are getting prepared with new safety measures as they wait.
As the reopening process continues in New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced this week that he will allow bowling alleys, museums and other low-risk cultural venues to open starting this week.

Since March, gym and fitness center owners have pleaded with Gov. Cuomo to allow them to open their facilities, all to no avail.
Many continue to lose revenue as the state remains firm on its stance despite the class-action lawsuit being filed against New York due to the delayed reopening.

But as the wait goes on, some owners are being cautiously optimistic, preparing for their reopening, whenever that may be.

"All of our stations are at least 6 feet apart so depending on what is mandating in capacity, we will either have a class of six which is less than our full capacity or we can have 12," says Heather Rhyu, Club Pilates owner. "We have mask mandates. We have hand sanitizer stations, everything is touchless. So, we feel really prepared, we are just ready to go."

The state is expected to release guidelines for fitness centers on Monday, giving some hope to gym owners like Rhyu, who are eager to welcome customers back to their facilities.
