Dia Beacon is home to one of the country’s best collection of contemporary arts

The one and only Dia Beacon is home to amazing art and makes for a tremendous Road Trip Close to Home.
The 240,000-square feet of art gallery space has one of the country’s best collections of contemporary arts. "Dia's specific emphasis has historically been on artists from the 60s and 70s maybe working in minimalism, post minimalism and conceptual art," says Dia Beacon’s Communications Director Hannah Gompertz.
Visitors have plenty on “to do” lists, and there is a “must see” list. "This exhibit is called "shadows" by Andy Warhol — it's the epitome of the type of large scale artwork Dia Beacon presents — from the 60s and 70s," says Gompertz. Another must-see work is one of the museum's newest and main attractions called "Party/After-party" by Carl Craig.
Gompertz points out there aren't any brochures or texts describing the artwork because it is up to you to interpret. But if you're still looking for more information on what you're seeing, there is smartphone technology in each gallery to learn more about a work.
Exploring Dia Beacon can make a person hungry, and the food scene on Beacon's Main Street has dishes from around the world. Just a few minutes from the museum, you'll find an eclectic mix of eateries that will take your taste buds on an adventure. From traditional American farm-to-table to Thai and even Palestinian food. It's a delicious way to wrap up your day!
Dia Beacon is now open to the public Friday to Monday and requires an advance reservation. You can book your ticket here.
