An award-winning soldier from Westchester was announced as the winner of the New York Army National Guard's Best Warrior Competition.

Cpl. Troy Perez, of Yorktown Heights, competed with the top soldiers from across the state's Army National Guard.

The soldiers put their military knowledge, marksmanship and combat skills to the test.

The competition was held from July 25 to 26 at Camp Smith Training Site near Peekskill.

He has several awards under his belt, including the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
