Members of the labor union 32BJ braved the scorching heat and sun Monday to stage a rally outside of Trump Tower in New Rochelle.
It was part of a nationwide effort directed at members of Congress, meant to raise awareness about the HEROES Act.
The legislation would provide more PPE and hazard pay, as well as extend unemployment benefits to essential workers - including building workers and janitors.
"We are calling on the U.S. Senate today to pass the HEROES Act and to take urgent action," said one member of the union. "Stop stalling on the relief that is urgently needed."
Union leaders say the movement is very personal because 130 32BJ members have died from COVID-19, with many others suffering.
Claudia Rodriguez, a housekeeper at New York Medical College, says this protest is about standing up for the safety of all Americans.
"Not just because I'm worried about my health," says Rodriguez. "I'm worried about your health too."
