Black Lives Matter protesters call for accountability in New Rochelle police-involved shooting

More than 100 people took to the streets Friday to march for the Black Lives Matter movement and for 24-year-old Kamal Flowers, who was shot and killed by New Rochelle police one week ago.
Earlier this week, the community called on the state attorney general to take the lead in the investigation over Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino.

New Rochelle police say Flowers was the passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over near Potter Avenue and Pierce Street last Friday. They say Flowers fled from the traffic stop, which was followed by a chase and a struggle.
Police say Flowers pointed a gun at an officer. That officer then fired six shots, killing Flowers.
Police say Flowers and the driver of the vehicle were stopped because officers witnessed illegal traffic maneuvers.
However, protesters in the community say the officers involved should be held accountable for the events that led to Flowers' death.
"I don't think it's right that police get to be above the law when they're supposed to be the law, I think they need to be a part of it just like everybody else," says Ajani Thomas, of New Rochelle.
The two officers involved in the shooting are on administrative leave and police say they are not releasing their names because of safety concerns.
The demonstrators marched from Mount Vernon’s Hartley Park to Lincoln Park in New Rochelle.
