Councilwoman Corazon Pineda Isaac says the time has come to change the system of policing.
The Democratic majority leader is proposing legislation that would demand all Yonkers police officers wear body cameras.
She is also calling for the creation of a civilian review board, which would investigate complaints of misconduct within the police department.
Detective Keith Olsen, the president of Yonkers PBA, says he sees no need to rush to overhaul the system. He says the system in Yonkers works.
Olsen says the city would be better off devoting its resources to more community programs and more officers instead of cameras.
It is not clear if these new programs will come to fruition because they do come with a hefty price tag. It is not clear if the city has the money to foot the bill.
