The former estates of John D. Rockefeller's family and William Rockefeller is now home to a plethora of wildlife and trails for visitors to explore. "It's great because people need to get out of their apartments and get fresh air and exercise, and we're happy we could be here for them to do that," says Peter Iskenderian, Rockefeller State Park and Preserve manager.

"Every day it's a little different. You know the leaves are different. It's greener some days, some days you hear the frogs in the early evening," says park visitors Peter and Patricia Kringas.

But what's a road trip without some good views? Pack your kayak, canoe or paddle board and take a 10-minute drive to Horan's Landing in Sleepy Hollow and soak in a panorama of the Hudson River. "To the south you can see the Manhattan skyline and the bridge. It’s beautiful, especially at night. And then the north you can see the Palisades in the mountains. It seems like you can see all the way up to West Point up the Hudson River," says Matthew Arone, Sleepy Hollow Parks and Recreation superintendent.

The boat launch is tucked along the southern edge of Sleepy Hollow's portion of the RiverWalk, which extends 50 miles from Yonkers to Peekskill. "Bring a picnic basket, bring a lawn chair, read a newspaper, walk, jog, sit on the benches," says Arone.
