Some of Westchester's beaches are opening today just in time for Memorial Day weekend, but there are some strict rules in place to keep everyone safe because of the coronavirus.

Playland Beach in Rye and Croton Point Beach in Croton-on-Hudson are the two beaches the county is opening for the long weekend. The beach at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle will stay closed because of the testing facility there.

Here are seven things that beachgoers need to know before leaving home today.
  1. Both of the county's beaches will only be available to Westchester residents.
  2. Everyone will have to verify their address with either a county park pass or a driver's license.
  3. Both beaches will limit capacity to 50% with social distancing and masks required.
  4. Make sure you pack a lunch with you, because none of the concessions will be open.
  5. Bathrooms will be available, but showers and locker rooms will not.
  6. Beach hours for the next four days are 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  7. Do not wear a mask in the water.
"In the water, no mask. From what we've been talking about with my colleagues and all, if you're wearing a mask it'll be more of a drowning hazard and things like that. So we don't need a mask when we're swimming and in the water. We want to be respectful. Keep that six-foot distancing from non-family members," says Westchester Health Department Assistant Commissioner Peter DeLucia.
