Widespread acts of kindness are increasing as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

There is a ray of hope in Peekskill for Freddie Lyons and his family, thanks to free meals being offered to those now facing hardship.

"I feel sorry for the situation that we're going through. I never experienced anything like this in my life, never thought I would. But the fact that we are, I feel grateful,” says Lyons.

Gullotta House, a Westchester based nonprofit is helping provide the meals for curbside pick-up Saturday at North Division Street.

They say it's their way of saying thanks to the community, while helping those who are struggling during these uncertain times.

"There's a lot of people in Westchester who can't get out of their homes because of the virus or quarantine. They need food and we help everybody,” says Matthew Gullotta, organizer.

The organization even makes food deliveries to families in need.

"I've lived here my whole life, it's amazing to see the community come together and people really helping each other out with free food,” says Ethan Kern, of Peekskill.

Online donations are also being accepted from those who can afford it.

Organizers say a mere $3.50 donation can provide one meal.
