An executive order by Gov. Andrew Cuomo will have New York elections officials automatically send every voter a postage-paid application for an absentee ballot to vote in the June 23 primaries.

Local officials who agree with the order do say there is a risk.

"Whether they're delivered in a timely manner … like you receive your mail, so that's always a concern," says Westchester Board of Elections Commissioner Reginald Lafayette (D).

Some voters say they're still more comfortable casting ballots at polling places.

"If you're mailing, I'm not worried about fraud but it could get lost for example," says Alec Clark, of Edgemont. "It might not show up, whereas if I actually cast my vote I know it's been cast."

But others say they'll be voting absentee, especially with coronavirus rampant in the region.  

"I agree that everybody should have the opportunity to vote, and in this pandemic it's probably the best way to vote," says Albert Rivera, of Yonkers.

It's still unclear whether or not this absentee voting process will be needed for the November elections.
