County Executive George Latimer says the death toll in Westchester has reached 283. There have been 14,804 positive cases of COVID-19 so far in the county.
Latimer says there are approximately 10,113 “active” cases. The number of positive cases two weeks ago was 4,691.
“Over the course of the last two weeks, those people have either taken seriously sick, may have passed away, or have managed to go through the two-week period of time that's necessary to determine that they are free of health issues related to the virus,” he said. “It is encouraging that so many people that tested positive for the virus have apparently overcome the virus."
The county executive also reported that flags in the county will be flown at half-staff in recognition of first responders, including hospital staff.
Latimer encouraged anyone experiencing domestic violence issues to call the Westchester County Office for Women at 914-995-5972. Latimer also said that the “county parks are open” but active usage parks, such as swimming pools and Rye Playland, will remain closed for now.
UPDATES FROM COUNTY EXECUTIVE LATIMER:
- There are 14,804 positive cases of COVID-19 in Westchester. There have been 283 deaths in the county.
- "We have lowered the flags of Westchester County government to half-staff.
- Latimer: "We know there is a spike in domestic violence issues." He urges anyone experiencing domestic violence to call the Westchester County Office for Women at 914-995-5972.
- "Two weeks ago, we had 4,691 cases that were positive. Which means that over the course of the last two weeks, those people have either taken seriously sick, may have passed away, or have managed to go through the two-week period of time that's necessary to determine that they are free of health issues related to the virus. When we subtract that number from the total current number of positives, we get a number that we think is the working number of active cases in Westchester County. That number is 10,113 cases.
- "It is encouraging that so many people that tested positive for the virus have apparently overcome the virus."
- "Our county parks are open." Other active usage parks most likely won't open in time, including swimming pools and Rye Playland.
- "We will never forget the spring of 2020."
