Newburgh Police Chief Solomon suspended; sources say he didn’t respond during riots

Newburgh Police Chief Doug Solomon was suspended this week after allegedly failing to report for duty during last week's riots.
The city had to bring in mutual aid from state and county police to regain control after a police-involved fatal shooting. Multiple sources say Solomon failed to respond during the crisis.
City officials would not comment on the exact reason for the suspension. Lt. Kevin Lahar has now been named "officer in charge."
“I have the utmost confidence in him and his ability to lead this department forward during this transitional period," said City Manager Joe Donat.
City officials would not comment on whether Chief Solomon is suspended with or without pay.
