Pleasantville photographer captures precious moments through Front Steps Project

A well-known Westchester family photographer is thinking outside the box to promote local businesses during trying times.

Donna Mueller’s successful business has come to a standstill due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I was racking my brain trying to figure out something I can do here to document this time,” says Mueller.

She decided to bring her hometown and surrounding communities an idea created by a Boston photographer and marketing consultant.

Thus, The Front Steps Project came to Westchester. Mueller told News 12 it takes about five minutes to capture families in their front yard as snapshots of moments in American history…all while remaining at a 6-foot distance.

“They’re together in their homes with their family, the perfect opportunity for people to be able to capture this moment,” she says.

News 12's Michelle Brown spoke with the Becerra family, who recently had their photos taken.

“It’s all about taking the situation that we’re dealt with and trying to make some positives out of it,” says Kristin Becerra of Pleasantville.

In exchange for taking family portraits, Mueller only asks that they support a local business, saying in part, “By getting a gift certificate, gift card, for whatever amount they feel comfortable donating.”
