Patient at Croton-on-Hudson nursing home tests positive for COVID-19

Posted: Updated:

A female resident at the Bethel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Croton-on-Hudson has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Officials at the facility have not released the woman's age or condition, but say she is at a nearby hospital.

A source tells News 12 the woman is 91 years old and fell in her home last week. According to the source, the woman was treated at an area hospital before being moved to Bethel. The source also says the woman developed a respiratory issue and was transferred back to the hospital.

In order to get tested, people will need to make an appointment with a doctor’s prescription first.

Bethel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center issued a statement saying that all visitors have not been allowed into the facility since Monday.

All nursing home residents and staff are being closely monitored. Crews are constantly sanitizing the building as well.

A nurse from Bethel says the center typically sees patients 50 years and older, but sometimes there are patients in their 90s.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo banned all visitors from entering nursing homes, since that's where some of the most vulnerable residents are.

Another source told News 12 over the phone they're concerned for their loved ones and said Bethel is normally not clean and that a stomach virus spread rampantly through the facility just a few weeks ago.

News 12 reached out to the administration for comment.

News 12 has not been told if any staff or other patients are in self-quarantine or have been tested and is waiting to hear on where the patient is currently.
